Happy Halloween From The Powells!

Just wanted to stop by and wish you all a Happy Halloween!!

The hubs and I were Mario & Louisa this year for Halloween. We both are sicker than dogs, but that won't stop us from enjoying the holiday! Luckily Target had a blue maternity skirt that matched perfectly because even with purchasing the costume 2 sizes larger it still didn't fit. It was hilarious! It literally just covered my who-ha... so there was no way I was walking out of the house in it! Gotta love it.

week 20 bumpdate

How Far Along? 20 weeks and 3 days.
Size of Baby P? We had a doctors appointment yesterday and Jackson weighed in at 14 oz. I was told he was measuring right where he should be and that even though I haven't gained much, I am right on track.
Maternity Clothes? Still a mixture. I'm trying to get away with buying as little as possible.
Weight Gain? 6lbs.
Stretch Marks? none.
Gender? He's all boy.
Sleep? I am still good on this front. I get between 7-9 hours of sleep a night. The days that I get less than 8 hours usually just meant that a nap was in my future sometime that day.
Food Cravings? Chocolate and nacho cheese dip.
What I Miss? Prosciutto! Oh yeah...and wine. They just go hand in hand. :)
Symptoms? Still rocking the sore boobies. Oh...and a tiny bladder.
Belly Button? In
Best Moment of the Week? The doctor telling me that baby Jackson is right on track and measuring perfectly. Thank the Lord!

20 weeks down, 20 to go folks!

week 19 bumpdate

How Far Along? 19 weeks and 4 days in this photo. I was 19 weeks and 6 days in the photos below. :)
Size of Baby P? Since I have been craving french fries most of my pregnancy, I thought it was fitting to find out when he was the size of what I was eating. This week Jackson is the size of McDonald's large fries.
Maternity Clothes? 100% in maternity jeans, but everything else is a mixture.
Weight Gain? 5lbs...even though it looks like I've gained like 10-15!
Stretch Marks? none.
Gender? He's all boy.
Sleep? I am finally sleeping through the night again.
Food Cravings? Chocolate and fruit. The hubs says it's because Halloween is coming and chocolate is readily available in my house. I don't know if I buy that or not...
What I Miss? Being able to go more than 45 minutes without having to use the restroom. Soooo annoying!
Symptoms? Still rocking the sore boobies.
Belly Button? In
Best Moment of the Week? Last night the hubs, baby Jackson and I went to game 2 of the World Series!!! Jackson couldn't stop moving around. It was such a blast! He isn't even here yet and he's already been to a World Series game. How spoiled is he?!?

Behind His Name

I started harassing asking the hubs about names right around week 8. I told him I wanted to have names decided before the gender reveal party so that didn't leave us with a lot of time. He didn't want our child to have a name that was super popular/common because growing up he was one of 8 Michaels in his grade and he hated it. I told him that while I didn't want a super popular name either, I wanted a name that could be found on key chains/cups in theme parks and such. My reason behind that was I was always able to find my name when we went on vacation, but my sister Jenna never could. She could find Jen and Jennifer...but never Jenna. It was never fun hearing her complain (for what seemed like an eternity) afterwards.

While we were dating I said that I wanted to name my first boy Cameron (my maiden name). The hubs said he liked that name so I thought we were good to go with the boy name. Since that discussion, however, a friend of mine had a son and named him Cameron. Since Michael was against common names he immediately said no when I brought it up once I was pregnant. That also meant a few other names I really loved were out as well since some of our friends had named their children those names.

So while we now had no name ideas, we had a place to start. Simple enough, right? Hahahaha...not even close.

After about a week the hubs told me he wanted a "J" name and really liked the name Jordan for a boy but had no idea for a girl. While I think Jordan is cute, I was not going to name my baby Jordan. Why you ask? Well, if you walked into our closet you would see about 45 boxes of Jordan shoes...and they aren't mine. Even though he denied that being the reason why he liked the name; I was not about to name my child after a basketball player/shoe. Never, ever, ever.

Another week of discussing names and we still weren't any closer to deciding. I swear I had looked up every baby name site online and even purchased a book. We couldn't agree on anything.

After a few weeks I brought up the subject again. This time I had a list of names on my phone that I had liked. My top two girl names were Emmalin and Riley. My top boy names were Jackson (Jax) and Aiden. The hubs liked Riley and Jackson, but wasn't a fan of Emmalin or Riley. It was a miracle! After weeks of numerous late night talks, we finally liked the same names. Nothing was official though because he wanted to hear the full name before he could decide 100%.

So back to the drawing board I went...

One night during week 13 I had a dream about my Uncle Grant. He passed away last year and it was really hard on me. When I woke up I told the hubs that I wanted Grant to be the middle name. Then I told him that I liked Mae for the girl's middle name. Mae was the hub's grandmother's middle name and she had just recently passed away as well. I told him that I thought it would be a perfect way to honor them and I really loved both names. He wasn't completely sold on the idea and said he wanted a few days to think about it.

Two days later I received a text that said "Jackson Grant and Riley Mae it is. :)"

It was finally official. We had names. Both first names were unique enough to make him happy, but common enough to make me happy.

So that's how our little peanut got his name. It was one of the hardest decisions we have made together thus far...but now looking back on it, it seemed like a no-brainer. He shares a name with one of the greatest men I've known and I can't wait to tell him all about his Great Uncle Grant. <3

Jackson Grant Powell @ a little over 13 weeks.

week 18 bumpdate

How Far Along? 18 weeks and 3 days.
Size of Baby P? Baby Jackson is the size of a sweet potato. Is it bad that I had to look up a sweet potato because I've never seen one in it's "natural" form?
Maternity Clothes? I am only able to fit into 2 pairs of pre-pregnancy jeans. Most of my pre-pregnancy tops still fit though, so I am mixing things up a lot. :)
Weight Gain? 5lbs.
Stretch Marks? none.
Gender? He's all boy. <3
Sleep? It's getting better.
Food Cravings? I am back to craving french fries. I am not sure how I feel about this...
What I Miss? Wine. I didn't drink much before, but there is something about being told you can't have it that makes you want it more.
Symptoms? I don't know if this is too much to post on here, so if it is I am sorry. However my only real symptom this week is the fact that my boobs hurt. Everything about them hurts and most of my bras do not fit anymore. Looks like a trip to VS is in my future...
Belly Button? In
Best Moment of the Week? I went shopping with the hubs mom, sister, my mom and my sister this week. It was a lot of fun and baby Jackson now has a ton of cute clothing options. I wanted to go shopping the second I found out, but I was good and waited. I am so glad I did because it was a great experience going with them  :)

gender reveal party...revealed!

From the moment the hubs & I found out I was pregnant I knew I wanted to have a gender reveal party. Natasha from Hello Happinesss had the cutest invites I had ever seen so I knew I wanted to take her ideas and make them my own. I contacted the Etsy store that designed her invites and was able to order my own.

Since I was already going to know the baby's gender, the hubs and I decided we wanted our mom's to cut the cake. It was another wonderful idea I got from Natasha. (Honestly, I really am not that good at this stuff so I appreciate those that are!)

The "Girl" cake was going to be butter cream with a strawberry whipped filling. The "Boy" cake was a lemon poppy seed with whipped cream in the center that was dyed blue. I would be lying if I didn't say I was secretly happy peanut was a boy. The cake was beyond tasty and it was the perfect combo!

Another thing the hubs and I wanted to have for the party was the name picked out. I loved the idea of everyone casting their votes and we thought it would be a fun way to remember the final two names that we had picked out. We loved Riley for a girl and Jackson for a boy. It was fun to see people's reactions to the names we had chosen and Jackson has already been given a few nicknames from our family.

I think it turned out so well and I couldn't have been happier with the party.  There was about 30 or so people and everyone commented on how much they loved the "Fall" theme instead of the typical blue vs pink. It really was one of the best parties we've ever had!
